Buckle is a small village in the riverlands, one of several contested settlements lying between the domains of House Bracken and House Blackwood. Its name appears only in the context of the territorial negotiations that end the long siege of Raventree Hall, where it serves as a bargaining chip in the centuries-old feud between the two houses.

Location and Disputed Status

Buckle is situated in the Blackwood Vale, a region of fertile fields and rolling hills that has been fought over by the Brackens and Blackwoods for thousands of years. Like the neighboring villages of Blackbuckle, Cairns, and Claypool, Buckle is claimed by House Bracken as part of the lands they say were stolen from them by the Blackwoods. Lord Jonos Bracken presents a map to Jaime Lannister listing Buckle among the villages, mills, and landmarks he expects to be restored to him as recompense for his support during the war.

Role in the Peace Settlement

When Jaime Lannister negotiates the surrender of Raventree Hall, Lord Tytos Blackwood initially offers to cede only Woodhedge, Crossbow Ridge, and Buckle—a ruin, a ridge, and a few hovels, as Jaime observes. After further bargaining, Blackwood agrees to give up Lord's Mill and the village of Honeytree as well, but Buckle remains part of the final settlement. The village thus becomes one of the minor territorial concessions that seal the peace, a small piece in the larger game of rewarding Bracken's loyalty while punishing Blackwood's rebellion.
